Command immediate attention and get an amazing return on your investment by knowing exactly what to put in your rack card designs! Here are six in-depth design tips that can help make your succeeding rack card marketing campaigns more successful than the last.

Compelling Rack Card Design Tips for Travel Industry Professionals

• Define your target audience first of all, even before you place the first pixel on your design file! If your business is a large and cozy bed and breakfast located near some tourist spots, vacationing families may be more interested in your lodgings than most. If you have a restaurant that serves uniquely native or exotic dishes, you have a great opportunity to attract foodie travelers looking for novelty.

List down what your target audience most likely wants to know off the bat, then build your rack card design around that information. Since businesses usually have more than one target audience, each of these audiences will need their own tailor made rack card designs.

Creating a highly targeted rack card campaign this way ensures that each variant makes each target customer feel your message is only for them. This effect, in turn, raises the chances that they will take your rack card off the display to find out more about you – and try you out.

• Choose the most visually persuasive photos that speak compellingly to your target audience. We highly recommend including happy customers in your photos, so your targets can visualize themselves in these people’s perspectives better. For example, if you own or manage a high-rise hotel, hook in a businessman’s interest by using a photo of a man communicating with his clients on the phone while getting a rooftop suntan.

• Add clear, concise, and enticing copy. Even a large standard size of 4″ x 9″ for your rack cards won’t allow you to list all of your business’s features without eating valuable image space. That’s why profiling your targets is important; it allows you to narrow your design elements down to what’s relevant for them.

Have a headline and tagline for the front side, and a short paragraph with five to six bullet points at the back. You don’t need to tell your prospects every little detail – just enough to satisfy the most important questions and yet leave them hungry for more.

• Use color strategically. Visit displays you plan to put your rack cards in, and take note of how the rack cards already there use color in their designs. Then use colors in your design that will make your rack cards stand out from the rest!

You can also take color psychology in consideration; choose hues that are attributed to feelings or ideas you want your business to be associated with. If your logo already takes care of this, then using your logo’s colors throughout your rack card design can also strengthen recognition of your brand.

• Keep your elements clean and simple. Use no more than two font styles, allow visual space for at least 30% of your design, and stick to a 2D version of your logo if you normally have a 3D one. That last tip comes from printing experience; printed materials and small sizes make 3D logos difficult to discern.

• Use file setup templates so you can make sure your design elements stay within the trim lines when they’re printed on offset presses. We have free templates available for you to download at our color rack cards product page, in both of our standard sizes.
