Vinyl Labels: The Best Choice for Your Product Packaging
Worried about your package or bottle label fading out from sun exposure or blurring from water? Vinyl labels are sturdy enough to withstand both elements along with multiple handling while your package is in transit. The material’s adhesive sticks permanently to almost any surface. Comes in singles (formerly known as cut-to-size) format for application by hand or in roll for placement with a label dispenser. Choose from square, rectangle, circle, or oval sizes for both formats or print in custom sizes if you have a specific design in mind. Read on to know how to make vinyl labels right here on UPrinting.
How to Create and Print Vinyl Labels?
If you prefer to use programs like Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, or Illustrator, select the “Templates” tab and download your preferred format. The downloadable files are listed according to size, shape, and orients. PDF, JPEG, and Publisher (PUB) formats are also available.
- Choose a format based on your application method or needed quantity.
Singles come in individual pieces. You can bundle the labels into sets of 50 to help you distribute and manage hundreds of labels. Roll labels are normally ordered in quantities of 250 and up. Recommended for those adding labels on bulk items to be packaged in a short amount of time.
- Select a shape and size that will fit your package or container.
Print in any of the four standard shapes—square, rectangle, circle, or oval—all available in small to large sizes for both singles and roll. Single vinyl labels are also available in other fun shapes such as arch, hexagon, heart, and starburst. Both label types have custom sizes if your preferred dimensions are not listed. - Use our online design tool or download a layout template to create your vinyl label.
Have you yet to create a design but have no editing software on hand? Select “Create Your Design Online” at the bottom of the online calculator and you’ll be taken to the design tool. Add text, combine colors, and place images on UPrinting’s very own vinyl label maker.
Why Choose Waterproof Vinyl Labels?
Heavy-Duty 4 mil White Vinyl
Don't let moisture or handling damage your branding. Our vinyl labels are printed on a substantial 4 mil white vinyl substrate—the industry standard for durability. Unlike paper labels that tear or sog, this material is tear-proof and opaque, ensuring your design stands out boldly on any surface, whether it’s a glass bottle or a corrugated box.
Weather & UV Resistant for Outdoor Use
Engineered for longevity, these labels are built to withstand the elements. The vinyl material is naturally waterproof, preventing inks from running when exposed to condensation or rain. For added protection, our High-Gloss UV coating safeguards your design against fading caused by sunlight, making these labels the reliable choice for outdoor equipment, car bumpers, and window displays.
Customization Options: Finishes & Formats
Cut-to-Size vs. Roll Labels
Select the format that fits your workflow:
- Cut-to-Size (Singles): Delivered as individual rectangles or custom shapes with a crack-and-peel backing. Ideal for hand-application, promotional handouts, or small-batch product testing.
- Roll Labels: Printed on a continuous liner compatible with most label dispensers. This format is the efficient choice for high-volume application on assembly lines or rapid manual labeling.
Matte, Gloss, and High-Gloss UV Finishes
Tailor the look and function of your label with our protective laminates:
- Matte: A smooth, non-reflective finish that offers an elegant, organic look. This surface is easier to write on with permanent markers.
- Gloss: A shiny finish that boosts color saturation and vibrancy, perfect for retail packaging that needs to pop on the shelf.
- High-Gloss UV: Our most durable option. This coating provides a mirror-like shine and an extra layer of protection against abrasion and UV rays.
Applications: From Packaging to Industrial Gear
The permanent adhesive backing ensures a strong bond on plastic, glass, metal, and cardboard.
- Health & Beauty: Oil and moisture resistance makes vinyl ideal for shampoo bottles, essential oil jars, and squeezable cosmetic tubes.
- Food & Beverage: Waterproof properties prevent peeling on refrigerated items like juices, beers, and jarred goods prone to condensation.
- Industrial & Outdoor: The tear-proof nature of 4 mil vinyl suits warning labels, machinery tags, and hard hat stickers that face rough handling.
Frequently Asked Questions
While both are durable plastics, Vinyl is thicker (4 mil) and more robust, making it the superior choice for outdoor use or heavy-duty industrial applications where UV and weather resistance are critical. BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) is a thinner, flexible material primarily used for high-volume indoor product labeling, such as water bottles and food packaging.
Yes, but it depends on the finish. We recommend choosing the Matte option if you need to write on your labels. For best results, use a permanent marker or ballpoint pen and allow the ink to dry completely to prevent smudging. Gloss and High-Gloss UV finishes are difficult to write on due to their slick protective coating.
Yes. Our waterproof vinyl labels use a permanent adhesive that holds strong even when exposed to moisture and temperature changes typical of refrigeration. This makes them an excellent choice for beverage bottles and food jars that are stored in coolers or fridges.
Our 4 mil vinyl labels are designed for durability. When paired with our High-Gloss UV coating, they are resistant to fading and weathering, keeping your message clear and vibrant even with prolonged exposure to sunlight and rain.
