How to Store Vinyl and Fabric Banners Without Creasing

Vinyl and fabric banners are frequently chosen for long-term display and repeated use. However, the storage method plays a significant role in keeping them in pristine condition.

With proper storage, you can extend the life of your banners and prevent permanent creases and cracked graphics.

Step 1: Clean your banner before storing it.

Clean and dry your banner before storing it. If it’s printed on vinyl, use a soft cloth and mild soap to remove dust, stains, and grime. For a soiled fabric banner, wash it on a gentle cycle with cold water and mild detergent.

Your banner needs to be completely dry before storage to prevent mold growth and permanent stains.

Step 2: Always roll, never fold.

Folding your banner causes permanent damage, weakens the material, and ruins the graphics (i.e., cracked or peeling ink). By contrast, rolling prevents pressure marks and damage.

Step 3: Roll it with the printed side out.

It’s recommended to roll vinyl banners with the printed side facing outward to prevent the graphics from being compressed too tightly, reducing the risk of cracking or peeling.

For fabric banners, rolling in either direction is generally safe.

Step 4: Use a core tube.

Use a cardboard or plastic core tube to keep the rolled banner's shape intact, preventing it from collapsing or bending. Tubes are excellent investments if you have multiple banners, as they are compact and allow for space-efficient storage.

Step 5: Store it in a protective bag.

After rolling, place the banner in a protective bag, carrying case, or plastic sleeve. Make sure there is no heavy object on top of it that could distort its shape.

Step 6: Store your banner in a cool, dry place.

Store banners in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity.
