How to Wash and Store Fabric Table Covers: A Quick Guide

Fabric table covers are often used for retail displays, trade shows, and other business events because they do far more than “dress up” a table; they help create a clean, brand-centric, and professional look.

These branded table covers are often exposed to spills and stains from food and displayed products, as well as dust, grime, and wrinkles from improper storage. To help extend their life and prevent permanent stains and damage, they require proper care and maintenance.

Things You’ll Need to Safely Wash Fabric Table Covers

  • Mild detergent
  • Cold or lukewarm water
  • Washing machine or basin
  • Drying rack

Step 1: Give the Cover a Shake Before Washing

Give the table cover a shake to remove any loose particles or dust.

Step 2: Wash With Mild Detergent

Use a small amount of mild detergent and a gentle cycle with cold or lukewarm water. For stubborn or heavy stains, you can pre-treat the affected areas before washing. Avoid bleach and other strong chemicals, as they may damage the graphics or fibers.

Step 3: Hang It to Dry

Air drying is the gentlest method, preserving fabric fibers and graphics by avoiding heat and damage. But if machine drying is the only option, use a low heat setting to minimize the risk of fading and shrinking.

Step 4: Fold or Hang for Storage

Only store fabric table covers when they are fully dry, as even the slightest moisture can promote mold growth, which could result in permanent stains. To prevent wrinkles or damage, you can hang or fold them neatly along their natural seams.

Step 5: Store in a Clean, Dry Place

Keep the table cover in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity. Consider using a storage bag or container for extra protection.

Step 6: Check Before Reuse

Before your next event, inspect the table cover for wrinkles, stains, and signs of wear and tear.

Step 7: Remove Wrinkles If Needed

You can remove wrinkles and folds using a garment steamer or an iron on a low heat setting. You can place a cloth between the fabric and the iron to protect the graphics from excessive heat.
