How think are 14 pt., 16 pt., and 17 pt. business cards?
Business card thickness is measured in points (pt), where each point equals 0.001 inches. The higher the point value, the sturdier and more premium the card feels in hand.

Thickness Information
     14 pt. (0.014 inches)
  • Standard thickness, commonly used by most customers
  • Flexible and cost-effective
  • Sturdy enough for everyday business cards
  • Ideal for bulk orders and general use

    16 pt. (0.016 inches)

  • Slightly thicker and sturdier than 14 pt.
  • Provides a more professional, premium feel
  • Popular choice for cards with coatings (e.g., gloss or matte)
  • Great for customers who want a more substantial card without going too heavy

    17 pt. (0.017 inches)
  • Thickest cardstock availableat [brand]
  • Heavier and more durable than 16 pt.
  • Excellent quality with a bare, uncoated finish
  • Provides superior writability (easy to write on with pens or markers)
  • Best for customers seeking maximum durability

I have a print-ready design, what file format do you accept?

We recommend PDF. We also accept JPG, PNG, PSD, AI, DOCX, and other popular formats.

What print guidelines should I keep in mind to ensure the file is print ready?

The business card design should be placed within three lines that guide how the material is cut. Our available layout templates already include these lines. But those who want to start from scratch need to create a design within the following standard guidelines:

  • Safety Line is placed around the actual business card design, particularly your logo, contact information, etc.
  • Trim Area is the area between the bleed line and safety line. This provides additional room for cutting the business card.
  • Bleed Line refers to the edge of your business card file. The background of your design should go all the way up to this area to prevent the appearance of a white border.

Business Card Print Guidelines

How do I make sure the text on my business cards is easy to read?

Use at least 9 pt font, maintain strong contrast, and avoid thin or hairline fonts. You can use our tool to help you gauge font size and distance: https://www.uprinting.com/blog/business-cards-font-size/

Will the paper stock and finish affect the colors of my standard business cards?

Yes. Different paper stocks and finishes can change how colors look. Gloss makes colors appear brighter, matte gives a softer look, uncoated stock looks more natural, and UV gloss adds extra shine to highlighted areas.

Can I have a glossy front and a writable back on my standard business cards?

Choose the 14 pt. Cardstock (Coated Front + Uncoated Back) paper type. The glossy side enhances color while the uncoated side allows easy writing with pens or pencils.

How do I prevent borders from looking uneven on my standard business cards?

Keep borders at least 1/8 inch inside the safe zone and extend background colors into the bleed area. Avoid placing borders too close to trim edges since slight shifts can happen during production.
