High-Quality Labels for Your Products
Finding the Best Materials for Your Labels
Materials matter when it comes to printing your product’s labels. A durable choice ensures your brand logo stands out and any helpful information is easy to read once customers check out your item. The best label materials also keep your design looking good as new, no matter how long they’ve been on display at a supermarket or stored for longer in a refrigerator.
Choose from several indoor and outdoor-friendly label materials on UPrinting. The sturdiest options—namely vinyl and BOPP—are both waterproof. All choices come with a protective gloss or matte laminate that resists scratches and scuffs even after being handled multiple times. Use the short table below as a guide on picking the best material for your label:

How to Choose the Best Label for Your Business Needs
The material alone won’t determine your choice of label. Other factors such as the overall look and other special features will also determine the best choice. Here are some of the best uses for the available label types:
- Clear Labels – Provides that transparent, “no label” type look for glass or plastic containers. Perfect for highlighting your item name or company logo.
- Vinyl Labels – The best choice for any item labels exposed outdoors, especially to the sun and water. This material is waterproof and provides UV protection that prevents the design from fading.
- Waterproof Labels – These come in indoor waterproof BOPP that keeps your label fresh after exposure to moisture, oil, or chemicals inside a refrigerator. Best for chilled food and beverage items.
- Metallic Labels – This option lets you apply a luxurious metal shine on one portion of your label design. Suited for special holiday items or other exclusive products.
- Holographic Labels – A heavy-duty BOPP variation that has an iridescent effect. The groovy rainbow effect works for designs with metallic or shiny colors.
A Guide to Product Labelling
Your product label should have the following requirements before it can qualify for sale in the US. The information below is in accordance with the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (FPLA):
- Declaration of identity or the product’s name
- Declaration of net quantity, uses, or servings (written in weight, numerical count, or mass measure)
- Declaration of responsibility or the name and address of the manufacturer (can be distributor or packer if not the manufacturer)
