Based on Fedex and UPS details, our 8 foot x 8 foot Backdrop weighs a total of 35 lbs. The Vinly Banner weighs around 16 lbs and the Banner Stand around 19 lbs.
It is difficult for us to recommend the proper size as we may not have the best understanding of the venue. It would be best to measure the space where you want to put the backdrop and plan from there. Judging from your description, you may need something wide if there is going to be a lot of picture taking with relatives. Our widest standard width is 10 feet but we can go as wide as 12 feet and the height at 8 feet.
The poles are made of black aluminum, the caps are plastic and the stands are metal.
