What’s the Difference Between Bulk and Short-Run Booklets?

Whether you need a few booklets or a thousand, we provide options that cater to your volume requirements without compromising on quality.

Bulk Booklets

Best suited for large orders of 250 pieces and more, our bulk printing offers a cost-effective solution for extensive distribution.

Short-Run Booklets

Ideal for smaller, more targeted campaigns or when you require only a limited number of copies. Starts from 10 booklets up to 200.

Choosing the Best Material for Your Booklet

Enhancing your booklet’s appearance and durability starts with choosing the right materials for the cover and inside pages. For the cover, you have several options. Use 80 and 100 lb. paper gloss for short-term use and promotional materials. For professional presentations and high-end brochures, opt for 10 pt. cardstock. For more durable booklets like annual reports, 14 pt. cardstock is the perfect option. And if you desire top-notch, long-lasting booklets, look no further than 16 pt. cardstock. With the right materials, your booklet will truly stand out!

For the inside pages, 70 lb. paper uncoated works well for text-heavy booklets like manuals. Choose 80 lb. paper for image-heavy booklets to enhance colors. For a variety of finishes, use 100 lb. paper. For high-quality, durable pages in premium booklets, 10 pt. cardstock is ideal. Depending on your needs, you might prefer a matte finish for a sophisticated look or a gloss finish to make colors vibrant.

Need a booklet with different dimensions? We also offer custom sizes up to 12” x 12”.

How many pages are there in one booklet?

A booklet consists of four cover pages along with the inside pages. The number of pages we offer includes both the four cover pages and the number of inside pages. Our online calculator breaks down the number of cover pages and inside pages upon selection.

What are the thickest cardstock and paper options available?

The thickest option for inside pages is the 10 pt. cardstock, with gloss or matte finish. The sturdy 16 pt. cardstock is the thickest choice for booklet covers.

How do I start designing a booklet?

You can design a booklet using our downloadable templates. Select the Templates tab on the booklets product page, choose your preferred file type, download the file of your chosen size, and begin designing.

In what format should I send my files for printing?

We accept PDF, AI, EPS, CDR, TIFF, JPEG, PSD, INDD, and PUB files. We also suggest using our free layout template for your booklet design and formatting.

Is there a page bleed to note when I create the booklet’s artwork?

Yes, a bleed of 1/8" should be on each side of every booklet page. Extend your artwork to the edge of the bleed to ensure it isn’t cut off or stretched when printed.

Can I review the booklet before it’s printed?

Yes! When you receive our PDF proof, you’ll see our team’s notes and recommendations for your booklet. You can accept or reject them, add technical notes for the Prepress Team, as well as your own recommendations. Your order won’t be printed until we receive your approval online.

Do you review my booklet design before printing?

Yes! Once you upload your file, our print specialists will conduct a thorough check of your file before printing, including the images, margins, formatting, and other details. We will then send a PDF proof with our team’s notes and recommendations that you need to approve before we can start printing.

Will my printed booklet look exactly like the online proof?
The online proof serves as a layout and content verification tool rather than an exact preview of the final printed booklet. Please note that the PDF proof does not provide accurate color reproduction. Variations in paper type, ink absorption, and the printing process can affect the final appearance. Colors viewed on screen may appear brighter or different than those produced with ink on paper.

What the PDF Proof Shows:
  • Page layout and order
  • Image positioning and cropping
  • Bleed, trim, and safety margins
  • Overall booklet structure, including folding and binding setup

What the PDF Proof Does Not Accurately Show

  • Exact color reproduction
  • Subtle differences caused by paper type, ink absorption, and the printing process

Achieving the Closest Match to Your Final Print
For projects where precise color accuracy is critical such as brand materials or photography-heavy booklets, we recommend ordering a printed mock-up. This option allows you to see how colors and details will appear on actual materials. Please note that mock-ups require an additional fee and shipping time.
How can I ensure that my booklet looks clean and professional?

To make sure that the booklet you're printing looks clean and professional, pay attention to the files setup, proofing, material, and final checks. Below is a practical, print-industry–aligned checklist you can use as a guide:

1. File Setup

  • Ensure that the file size, bleed, and margins are correct.
  • Add a 0.125" bleed on all sides to prevent white edges after trimming.
  • Keep text and logos within the safe area to avoid cutting or binding issues.
  • Match page size and count to the binding method.

     Color Settings

  • Set or convert the file to CMYK (not RGB) for print accuracy.
  • Avoid overly bright colors that cannot be reproduced with ink.
  • Expect slight variations due to paper and ink absorption.

2. Proofing

  • Check the online PDF proof thoroughly.
  • Check page order, pagination, text alignment, spacing, image resolution, bleeds, trims, and folds.
  • Ensure fonts and elements are not missing.
  • Check hard proofs closely. This is recommended for prints where color accuracy is critical.
  • Check the order for brand colors that must follow an exact sequence. This is typically essential for photography, dark backgrounds, or high-volume/high-value projects.
  • Please note that mock-ups are available at additional cost.

3. Material Selection

  • Choose the appropriate paper stock for your booklets and the cover. A heavy cover stock adds durability to the booklet overall and prevents curling.
  • Pick your choiceof coating/finishing.
    • Gloss - Produces vibrant colors; ideal for catalogs.
    • Matte - Creates a professional look, makes the material easy to read, and resists fingerprints.
  • Binding Options
    • Saddle-stitch - Simple, flat, best for short booklets.
    • Perfect binding - Polished finish, allows for spine printing, and is suited for larger page counts.
    • Wire-O - Lays flat, ideal for manuals and training books.

4. Design for Finishing

  • Keep text away from trim and fold lines.
  • Maintain consistent margins across all pages.

5. Final Checklist Before Approval

  • Ensure that all texts are clear and free of typos. Please note that proofreading is not included in the printing service.
  • Ensure that all iImages are sharp. We recommend at least 300 dpi for images and graphics.
  • Check if the page numbers are correct.
  • Ensure that there are no critical content near edges or spine.
  • Manage expectations regarding the possibility that screen colors may differ from printed colors.
Can I save more with a large quantity order of booklets?

Yes, the bigger your quantity order, the less you spend on each booklet. You can find the cost of each booklet at the bottom of the online calculator, under the total printing cost, indicated in parenthesis.

When can I receive my booklets?

The turnaround time for custom booklets is 2-6 business days after your file is approved. This doesn’t include shipping time, weekends, and holidays.

“I've printed a RE Booklet for a client since 2008. I found myself needing to find a new printer due to change of ownership, price increase and decrease of customer service. My experience with Uprinting has been so refreshing and stress-free from the start! The sales-help is approachable, quick to respond and helpful with the process from the ordering to the proof, to the printing and shipping time! And did I mention the price beats the rest! This is my 4th ordering of the booklets and they are beautiful!”
