Coffee Packaging: Printing Solutions for Your Fresh Brews & Roasts

Coffee has become a timeless staple among the young and old. The US alone 150 million people drinking coffee daily, which is about half of the country’s population. To be more exact, the US is a leading consumer of coffee worldwide with Americans drinking a total of 400 million cups every day. But a large consumer base means more competition.

To stand out, you’ll need enticing coffee packaging to attract a significant portion of this large market. Whether these consumers are browsing online or in a store, vibrant coffee pouches and minimalist boxes can compel them to take a closer look at what your beans have to offer. Create custom coffee packaging in the form of pouches, mailer boxes, or labels to add to your containers. UPrinting lets you choose and combine different features for each packaging option. If you’re not sure where to start, read on to find out which factors to consider while choosing the best packaging option for your coffee.

3 Factors That Matter in Your Coffee Packaging

The type of packaging you need.

Are you sealing ground coffee or beans in a bag or do you need a box for shipping several pouches in an order? For the former, we offer two kinds of pouches:

  • Stand-up pouches are what you typically see in food and snack aisles. Each pouch comes with bottom gussets that expand when filled. As its name indicates, the pouch can stand on its own upon sealing in your coffee. It also comes with other storage features such as zippers, heat seals to prevent leaks, and hang holes or tear-notches for easy display,
  • Flat pouches are perfect for single servings or smaller samples of your coffee. Include them with every large order to expand your coffee bean packaging. Weight capacity ranges from 1 gram, 1 ounce to as much as 8 ounces.

Mailer boxes are recommended for coffee companies and cafes shifting their business to home deliveries. You can package several coffee bags and provide a fun, unboxing experience for customers as they unveil your mailed package. You can order one sample box to see how it will appear—no minimum quantity required for your order. Use our 3D online design tool to directly create and preview the box’s look before printing.

Product boxes are also available for packaging sachets or if you want to enclose the bag in cardstock or corrugated cardboard.

Labels are the fastest and simplest way to add on to your container, whether it’s a pouch, box, or jar. Print in the four standard shapes or choose from other options under cut-to-size like arch or hexagon. Custom sizes are also available for both label types.

How to keep the coffee fresh. Packaging also ensures your product stays fresh at all times from preparation, shipping, display, purchase, to storage. Our pouches are made of thick barrier film that protects your coffee from oxygen, moisture, and light. You can also add zippers to make the pouches resealable to guarantee freshness after opening.

Features you need on the coffee packaging design. Storage is only one of the factors in deciding the best packaging for your product. You’ll also want to add special printing features like a metallic finish for the pouch or a clear barrier for a minimalist design.

Mailer boxes can be designed on white or Kraft brown corrugated cardboard. The white comes in a standard or premium variation, while the brown offers a rustic, natural finish to your packaging.

Product boxes come in shiny gloss, extra vibrant high gloss, and elegant matte coatings. You can also add special features such as embossing, foil stamping, and spot UV application on specific areas to highlight your company name or coffee brand. The variety of colors and finishes help elevate the luxurious or bold look of your packaging design.

The quantity and packaging method. Are you filling the pouches yourself? Then a flat pouch is recommended for smaller quantities. Stand-up pouches are a bit harder to fill by hand and are better filled through automated means.

Individual cut-to-size labels are more manageable in quantities between 25 to 100. You can easily apply these by hand, while rolls fit in most label dispensers for a fast application of quantities above 250.

Mailer boxes come scored to indicate the lines for folding. You can easily assemble it in minutes before placing the products inside. Product boxes also arrive flat and ready to fold for fast assembly.

Coffee Packaging FAQs

What is the most cost-efficient coffee packaging option?

Your choice depends on how you want to package the coffee. Pouches work if you need the package itself to stand on its own. Boxes and labels are normally an add on to your coffee’s actual container. The bigger your order quantity, the less you spend per unit. Bulk quantities will save you more money compared to a small order.

What is the difference between regular pouches and the child-resistant version?

Both the child-resistant flat and stand-up pouches come with a reclosable zipper that prevents children from tampering with the product. The zipper requires two separate actions to open the pouch and access the contents.

All child-resistant pouches meet the federal test requirements of the US Code of Federal Regulations (CFR 16, Part 1700) referenced by A.S.T.M. D3475. The closure on our flat pouches also meets the requirements for special packaging as indicated in the U.S. Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA).

Can I design my packaging labels for my products?

Yes, you can use our online design tool or download a layout template for the label or pouches. Templates are available in AI, JPEG, PDF, PSD, and PUB formats.

Boxes can be designed using our 3D online design tool. This lets you preview the actual look of the box before it’s printed.

What are the best seals to use for coffee pouches? What is the best to use?

Stand-up and flat pouches come with an optional press-to-close, a resealable zipper that extends the shelf-life of your product after opening.

Is it safe to use the product box for my coffee pouches?

Yes, as long as the size provides an allowance to safely seal and store the pouch. If you are delivering several pouches, mailer boxes provide more space.
