Flyers don’t just call a customer’s attention—they can easily shift their focus to your business and what it has to offer.
Business flyer printing has been used for decades to inform both loyal and potential customers of retail, real estate, and restaurant products and services. Promotional flyers are also used to announce major changes such as a new store branch or address change. They are also easy to hand out in high foot traffic areas, letting you target specific audiences.
How to Choose the Best Paper Type
We offer three kinds of paper stock and two cardstock options. The choice will depend on your preferred material thickness and the distribution method of the marketing flyers.
Cardstock Choices
What to Expect With Our Coating Options
Your coating option determines the finish and feel of your business flyer design. Here’s a quick guide on what to expect from the four available options.

Whether you’re opening a new store, announcing a real estate company development or launching a product line, business flyers let you communicate immediately to your target market. We also offer folding options for those that need to store and transport flyers to several locations. Business Flyer Q&A
- 100 lb. Gloss or Matte Paper – Sleek and professional. Heavier than magazine stock, yet still flexible for easy handling.
- 10 pt. Cardstock – Comparable to a magazine cover. A smart option if you want sturdiness without going too heavy.
- 14 pt. Cardstock – Our most popular pick. Thick enough to resist bending, with glossy or matte finishes that elevate your design.
Best Value Tip: For the ideal balance of durability and affordability, go with 14 pt cardstock. It delivers a professional look and comes in glossy, matte, or uncoated finishes to perfectly match your brand style.
When your flyer comes off the press, colors may not look exactly the same as they do on your computer screen. Here’s a quick breakdown of the difference:
- Digital Screens vs. Print – Computer monitors use RGB color mode (light-based colors), while printers use CMYK (ink-based colors). This shift can make printed colors appear a little darker or less vibrant, depending on whether you're looking at a screen or an actual printed material.
- Paper Finish – Glossy paper or cardstock reflects light, making colors pop with extra vibrancy. Matte or uncoated paper absorbs more ink, giving colors a softer, more subdued look.
- Paper Thickness – Thicker, sturdier stock holds ink well, but it’s the finish (gloss vs. matte) that really determines how bold or muted your colors appear.
- Ink Saturation – Super bright or neon shades on screen don’t always translate perfectly to print, since CMYK inks have a more limited color range.
- For bold, eye-catching colors, choose glossy cardstock.
- For a sophisticated, elegant look, go with matte.
- For a natural, rustic feel, select uncoated.
- Thinner stocks (most paper stocks or up to 10 pt. cardstock). Flyers are scored and folded before shipping. Scoring creates a clean crease line, ensuring your flyers fold neatly without cracking.
- Thicker stocks (14 pt. and above). Flyers are scored but shipped flat. This protects them during transit while still giving you an easy crease to fold along when you’re ready.
- Design Alignment. Avoid placing text, images, or logos directly on fold lines. Once folded, they may appear misaligned or harder to read.
- Margins and Bleeds. Keep important elements away from folds. Use safe margins so nothing gets cut off or distorted.
- Fold Style Impact. Each fold style (trifold, Z-fold, gate fold, etc.) reveals panels differently. A design that looks perfect flat may feel crowded or confusing once folded if panels aren’t planned carefully.
- Plan your flyer layout with the fold in mind. This ensures your message flows naturally across panels and your design looks as good folded as it does flat.
- Bleed and Safe Zones. Extend background colors or images at least 1/8" beyond the trim line (bleed), and keep important text or graphics at least 1/8" inside the safe zone. This prevents design elements from being cut off and keeps your layout clean. Uniform margins also help avoid a crowded or uneven look.
- Folding Considerations. If your flyer will be folded (bifold, trifold, Z-fold, gate fold, etc.), avoid placing text or key images directly on fold lines. Plan your design around panels so the message flows naturally once folded.
- Check Panel Flow. For folded flyers, print a sample at home, fold it, and review how your design flows across panels. This helps you catch alignment issues before final printing.
