Serendipitous (adj.) having the affinity for making pleasant and unexpected discoveries.

Austin-born filmmaker Daniel Millican believes that his mission is to “tell compelling stories with thought-provoking messages that build up our families and inspire individuals.” Daniel and his team at the aptly-named Serendipitous Films production company lead their viewers to discover new insights and inspiring stories on the human experience.

Serendipitous Films tells two kinds of stories. The first type utilizes Daniel’s experience in commercial communications. Here, it is imperative for the studio to help clients spread their message effectively so they can have an edge in their marketplace or get noticed. Recently, Serendipitous Films teamed up with the non-profit organization, Kids and Cars in a TV spot on the importance of keeping children safe against vehicular accidents.

Daniel also uses his expertise in corporate communications when the studio works on websites and print materials for corporate clients.

Aside from making informative AVPs and websites for organizations, Serendipitous Films also tells stories to entertain. Daniel jumped into the feature films business from the commercial video field in the year 2000.

His baptism was with a film called “The Keyman: Finding Redemption” which told a story about abandonment and regret. It also spoke about the importance of forgiveness in one’s life. The Keyman: Finding Redemption starred cult-TV series actor, Adam Baldwin.

The studio has also worked with Lou Diamond Phillips and Yancy Butler on the movie “Striking Range”. Originally entitled “Bloodlines”, the film followed a plot that delved on the destructive effects of egotism. It takes off from 19th Century theologian Charles Finney’s quote, “the natural state of man is selfishness”.

Another notable feature from Daniel Millican and Serendipitous Films is the 2010 release, “The Imposter, a tale about a Christian rock star named Johnny C (played by Kevin Max of the real-life Christian band, dc Talk). The movie gives a modern twist to the Parable of the Prodigal Son found in the Bible.

It is not unusual for some of Serendipitous Films’ stories to explore Christian themes owing to the studio head’s religious beliefs. However, the essence of the company’s entertainment arm is to bring enjoyment to its audience while allowing them to find inspiration and truths.

Since telling stories that inspire and encourage people is important to Daniel and his film company, it’s also imperative that their audiences are able to find them. Audiences and clients are sure to learn about Serendipitous Films’ services and latest feature offerings through the brochures, large posters, business cards, flyers and postcards that Daniel has been ordering from UPrinting since 2008.

Initially, Daniel has admitted, he was cautious about ordering from UPrinting. After all, how could he make sure that he was getting top-quality work from an online printer? However, UPrinting has proven to Daniel that his worries were unfounded. He now asserts “with every job, UPrinting has impressed me. When there has been a question of bleed, or color balance, UPrinting’s setup people have not hesitated to contact me to make sure the best product possible is shipped to me.”

Daniel has also since used UPrinting for other marketing materials. He relates this story, “I used the promotional canvas poster to reward loyal customers. When I ordered and got the free 16×20 canvas print, I had it done for the client and framed it for them. Needless to say, they were touched”.

Initiatives like that and the studio’s talent and enthusiasm for their work makes this Fort Worth, Texas-based film production outfit valuable to its clients and audiences. Daniel explains the success of his company saying “We love telling stories. We take pride in what we do and we have fun doing it. Clients that hired us twenty years ago, are still doing videos and business with us today. We’re that kind of company.”
