Though rack cards are some of the best promotional materials a hotel can have, creating and designing them need not drain the best of your resources. All you have to do is know your hotel inside out – and use these short lists of simple but effective tips to make a great hotel rack card design.

Designing Hotel Rack Cards Simply and Effectively

Image Tips:

  • Always use photos, not drawings or other artwork, of your hotel. Photos look more realistic and help people visualize your hotel better.  Photos also allow you to set ideal scenes, giving your audience the chance to step into the picture.
  • Photograph your hotel’s best-selling features. If your hotel has a spacious, well-stocked bar with a beautiful ocean view, or a wide swimming pool that both children and competitive swimmers will enjoy, make sure your rack card photos show these hotel features in the best light.
  • Include people in the hotel photos to forge a stronger personal connection with your readers. Make sure these people are smiling in your photos, and show that they’re having a great time at your hotel.
  • Ensure great image quality in your hotel rack cards. Hire a professional photographer, use a good digital camera, or get image editing software to correct bad lighting or colors.

Copy Tips:

  • Use lists and short sentences filled with benefits in your rack card copy. Do you have Penthouse rooms available?  What amenities do you offer?  Is there easy access to any shopping or dining?  Try to anticipate the needs of your guests outside your hotel.
  • Include all your contact information, as well as easy to follow directions to your hotel. Better yet, include a map with your directions that also specify landmarks your guests can find easily.
  • Answer two questions in your rack card’s initial copy: “What would your potential guests want to know about your hotel?” and “What does your hotel have that other hotels don’t, and that would make your potential guests more interested in staying?”

Layout and Design Tips:

  • Templates are okay to use, as long as you mix up your design elements from time to time. Your rack cards’ main purpose is to attract new customers, and your previous customers mostly need only a good reminder.
  • Organize your content into categories, like Accommodations, Recreational Facilities, Transportation and the like. Arrange these categories in the order that your readers are most likely to want to know first.
  • Set up the front side of your rack cards for a great first impression. Reserve the use of detailed copy for the back side. For the front side, you’d want attractive images, an inviting tag line, maybe even your latest promotional offer, and the name and logo of your hotel.
