Postcard Design Specifications

USPS Postcard Design Specifications That You Should Know About

Aside from designing and printing, you also need to think about the rules on mailing postcards. The USPS (United States Postal Services) has strict rules when it comes to postcard design specifications. You need to comply to these guidelines to qualify for lower or discounted postage rates. The indicia, aspect ratio, size, and weight are among the things that you need to consider when planning your postcard printing project. The address box and tabbing options of the postcards should also be considered.

The indicia are the markings on the upper right hand corner on a mail piece and this indicates that the sender of the postcard has already paid the postage. The aspect ratio of a postcard should be 1.3 to 2.5; these numbers are just the length divided by the height of the postcard. When it comes to the size and shape, a postcard should have a maximum size of 6x4.25 inches and minimum of 5x3.5 inches. On the other hand, the weight of a single postcard should not be more than 13 ounces.

The USPS also require that folded postcards either be tabbed or be enclosed in envelopes. On the address area, there should be at least 2x4 inches space on the mailing side.
