Digital Press Printing

The Two Faces of Digital Press Printing

Digital printing process has two faces; one is the short run digital press for regular or standard sized print materials and the large format digital press for large scale printing. Digital printers generally make use of the same process of printing – that is, a digital file from a computer is sent directly to the printer for printing without a need for plates and cylinders.

Digital Press
The printer takes in a medium and starts firing jets of ink onto the surface of the substrate. Instead of being absorbed, the ink forms a thin layer on the surface of the medium and is infused onto it through the toner’s reaction to heat. Some examples of promotional materials that can be printed through a digital press are:

• Business Cards
• Brochures
• Gift certificates
• Catalogs
• Booklets

Large Format Digital Press
This printer makes use of the same printing process as other digital presses except that large format digital presses prints on large scale substrates. The medium is usually made of Polyvinyl Chloride or PVC. This is for large scale advertising and promotions on highly visible locations. Examples of large format digital press printed products are:

• Vinyl Banners
• Window Clings
• Canvas Prints
• Yard Signs
• Poster Signs

Digital press printing is ideal for short run prints with copies that don’t exceed thousands. Since there’s no need for preparations such as etching or burning of plates, digital presses tend to have a shorter turnaround time. It also has digital precision in printing which promises high quality printouts every time.
