Brochures are folded print materials with an 8.5” x 11” size used for marketing purposes. In choosing the kind of fold for your brochures, you should know first what you want to achieve with them. For example, how are you going to use your brochure? What does it feature? How much information are you planning to include in your brochure? Answering these questions allow you to design your brochures with the correct fold type to effectively reach your target market and communicate your brand to them.

Below are the types of brochure folds available in the market:

Half-fold brochures –These are folded in the middle to form two spacious panels of equal size. This makes the brochures perfect for designs with large images on each panel. An example of their application is in real estate brochures, where house models or condo units are featured.

Letterfold/Tri-fold brochures – These are folded as though you are folding paper to fit an envelope. These have three panels, with the right panel folding to the middle of the brochure before the left panel. Several applications of these brochures would be for company profile, product or service profile and travel destination guide.

Z-fold brochures – These have two folds forming three panels with the leftmost panel going on top of the center panel and the rightmost panel being folded towards the reverse side of the center panel forming the letter “Z” – hence the Z-fold. These have the same applications as letterfold brochures.

Roll fold brochures –These have three fold lines, resulting into four panels, and are folded as though you are rolling a paper. Since these are bigger than the standard size of 8.5” x 11”, roll fold brochures can hold more information, making these ideal for promoting a list of products and services.

Accordion fold brochures – These are brochures with three fold lines and four panels, each folded alternately until they open in the manner of an accordion. These are good as a product or service list and as short order menus for restaurants (if printed on a card stock).

Be sure to design your brochures according to how you are going to use them. Choose the right fold for your brochure design for a more effective brand communication and promotion. For a better market leverage, select the most appropriate materials and consult the right company for your brochure printing needs.
