When we speak of catalog design, the first thing that comes in mind might resemble a white booklet with images and prices. This design has become a standard in catalog printing. It's safe; you definitely can’t go wrong with this design. However, in the ever-changing world of business, can going safe and conventional really be the way to market your business? Nowadays, the first to grab attention gets the market. Plain old white catalogs are out and deviating out of the norm is in. Make custom catalogs and get noticed. But how do you do just that? Here are some ways to customize the design of your catalogs.

• Color your catalogs. Don’t hesitate to mix colors; be adventurous with color combinations. The key is choosing the right base color for your highlight colors. For example, black is a very good base color for highlight colors such as neon and pastel. Black amplifies bright colors, making them look even more vibrant and lively. Complementary colors are those of opposite hue in the color wheel. They are called complementary because they somehow enhance each other, making the other one a good base for the other. You can start from there and experiment on colors in your design.
• Change the size. Don't use the standard size of 8.5” x 11". Instead, use 5.5” x 8.5” or 12” x 12”. Doing this makes them stand out from the traditional ones. It's important that your catalogs stand out so they get noticed in a pile immediately.
• Add feel and ambience to your catalogs. Have your catalogs coated with matte or gloss finish. Gloss-coated catalogs are usually shiny vibrant colors and livelier images provided they're high-resolution. Matte-coated cards have a toned-down feel. They have a sophisticated look and a smooth, silky feel. It is important to choose the right coating for your catalog design. The ambience of your catalogs contributes greatly to your brand image.
